SCRIPTURE SECOND THESSALONIANS 2

The Coming of Christ and Resurrection
2Thessalonians 2:1-2
1—Now we beseech you, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together to him, 2—that you are not soon shaken in mind, or troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, that the day of Christ is imminent.?

2Thessalonians 2:3-5
3—Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], until there comes a falling away first, and that man of sin is revealed, [who is] the son of perdition; 4—who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called Deity, or that is worshipped; so that he (thinking himself) as god, sits in the temple of YHVH, showing himself that he is god. 5—Do you not remember, that, when I was still with you, I told you these things

2Thessalonians 2:6-11
6—And now you know [who] restrains, that he [the lawless one] might be revealed in his time. 7—For the mystery of iniquity is already at work: but restrained, until removed from the midst. 8—And then shall that lawless one be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the Spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9—whose coming [the lawless one] is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10—with all deceit of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11—And for this cause YHVH shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12—that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness

1Thessalonians 4:13-18
13—But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that you sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14—For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will YHVH bring together [to] him. 15—For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive [and] remain to the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16—For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of YHVH: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17—then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18—Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

THE BLESSINGS OF REDEMPTION
Ephesians 1:1-12
1—Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of YHVH, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: 2—grace [be] to you, and peace, from YHVH our Father, and [from] the Lord Jesus Christ. 3—Blessed [be] YHVH and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly [places] in Christ: 4—according as he has chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5—having predestinated us to the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6—to the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he has made us accepted in the beloved.
7—In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; 8—wherein he has abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; 9—having made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he has purposed in himself: 10—that in the administration of the fullness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; [even] in him: 11—In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who works all things after the counsel of his own will: 12—that we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

JESUS EXAMPLE

Hebrews 12:1-29
1—Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which does so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2—looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of YHVH.
YHVH chastens for our benefit
3—For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest you be wearied and faint in your minds. 4—You have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin. 5—And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to children, my son, despise not you the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked of him: 6—for whom the Lord loves he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives. 7—If you endure chastening, YHVH deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chastens not? 8—But if you be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are you bastards, and not sons.
9—Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected [us], and we gave [them] reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live? 10—For they in truth, for a few days chastened [us] after their own pleasure; but he for [our] profit, that [we] might be partakers of his holiness.
11—Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to them which are exercised thereby. 12—Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; 13—and make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.
14—Follow peace with all [men], and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: 15—looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of YHVH; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble [you], and thereby many be defiled; 16—lest there [be] any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. 17—For you know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
18—For you are not come to the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor to blackness, and darkness, and tempest, 19—and the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which [voice] they that heard entreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more: 20—(for they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart: 21—and so terrible was the sight, [that] Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:) 22—but you are come to mount Sion, and to the city of the living YHVH, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, 23—to the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to YHVH the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, 24—and to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaks better things than [that of] Abel.
25—See that you refuse not him that speaks. For if they escaped not who refused him that spoke on earth, much more [shall not] we [escape], if we turn away from him that [speaks] from heaven: 26—whose voice then shook the earth: but now he has promised, saying, yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. 27—And this [word], yet once more, signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. 28—Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve YHVH acceptably with reverence and godly fear: 29—for our YHVH [is] a consuming fire.

THE COMING OF CHRIST
2Thess. 2:1-5
1—Now we beseech you, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together to him, 2—that you are not soon shaken in mind, or troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, that the day of Christ is at hand. 5—Do you not remember, that, when I was still with you, I told you these things?

THE LAWLESS ONE
2Thess. 2:4-5
4—who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called Deity, or that is worshipped; so that he (thinking himself) as God, sits in the temple of YHVH, showing himself that he is god. 5—Do you not remember, that, when I was still with you, I told you these things?

LAWLESSNESS --VERSUS--THE HOLY SPIRIT
2Thess. 2:6-12
6—And now you know [who] restrains, that he [lawless one] might be revealed in his time.
11—And for this cause, YHVH shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12—that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

HOLD FAST TO THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
2Thess. 2:13-17
13—But we are bound to give thanks always to YHVH for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because YHVH has from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 14—whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15—Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which you have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle. 16—Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and YHVH, even our Father, which has loved us, and has given [us] everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, 17—comfort your hearts, and establish you in every good word and work.

COMMENTARY

The Coming of Christ and Resurrection
Verse 2 is a primary pretribulation rapture proof text for the imminent return of Jesus. However, if the sentence is read correctly, Paul is reminding the church that it is not imminent.

Note for 2Thessalonians 2:3-5—Paul makes it very clear that the coming of Jesus Christ is not imminent. The son of perdition, a.k.a., the fourth beast of Daniel and the common term—Antichrist, must be exposed first by the coming of Jesus Christ to destroy him (vs. 8). Revelation 11:15—the third woe at the seventh trumpet.

Verse 3 confirms Matthew 24:15 that the deceit of the Abomination of Desolation, aka, Fourth Beast and Antichrist will be revealed when Jesus is seen coming on a cloud.

Verse 4, the phrase, “sits in the temple of YHVH” is an expression of apostasy because under the new covenant each true believer is the temple of YaHavah.

Note for 2Thessalonians 2:6, 11—Verse 6, there is only one power that can restrain sin, who is the Spirit of YHVH. He will reveal and remove the son of perdition at the appointed time. Vs. 11—those who will not believe the truth will be deluded and damned.

Note for 2Thessalonians 2:7—The context of verse 7 is about sin being restrained by the Spirit of YaHavah until the day of our Lord’s return. Sin is restrained in faithful Believers by the Spirit. This is consistent with everything Jesus taught. Pretibulationists believe the Spirit will be removed with the rapture of the church, but that is part of the arrogance and error of that doctrine.

THE BLESSINGS OF REDEMPTION
Note for Ephesians 1:4-11: YHVH’s plan of salvation is in the choice to believe the truth and be chosen. His plan was laid before creation. He searches the heart to see the inclination of the soul. YHVH so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that none should be lost, but predestined for adoption according to the inclination of the heart.

YHVH’s plan of salvation is preset. Those who accept it will be chosen, those who do not will be lost. The path to the cross and beyond is there, one has only to choose it. Ask His counsel and follow it.

THE COMING OF CHRIST

THE RAPTURE
Jesus cannot come on the clouds of heaven to rapture the church until after the apostasy comes. Paul makes it clear we are not to believe it when anyone says the Lord is already here or that he has or will come before the apostasy. The apostasy is during the last seven years.

Here is the kicker. Satan devised the “rapture” to get around verses like these; have a secret rapture before the apostasy and first resurrection after. But the rapture as defined in the pre-tribulation doctrine challenges other Scriptures that say there are only two resurrections; one—not two— to life and one to death. There is only the first resurrection and second resurrection. Resurrection and rapture have the same meaning—to change in a twinkling

THE LAWLESS ONE
This man, who is the fourth beast of Daniel's end-time prophecies, is the Lawless one, who thinks of himself as being better than YHVH. He is destined to become the Fourth Beast at the appointed time.

LAWLESSNESS --VERSUS--THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit who is the Spirit of YHVH holds everything in place so that it will occur at its appointed time. The world cannot exist without the presence of the Spirit of YHVH.

Paul is saying that he has already told the church at Thessalonica what will come and all about the coming of Jesus on the clouds of heaven and the entrance of the Fourth Beast. They know that YHVH has appointed a time for the Lawless One to be revealed. The Holy Spirit, who is YHVH's own spirit, will not let anything happen before its time.

The power of sin (lawlessness) has been on this earth from the time Adam and Eve were cast from the garden of YHVH. It will remain until the perpetrator of sin, Satan, is first put in chains for one thousand years, and then destroyed forever. The Spirit of YHVH is the only one who can restrain the power of sin until then. Even so, sin will overcome all who have not asked YHVH for forgiveness and given themselves to the power of his Spirit through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. No matter how evil the Fourth Beast becomes by the power of Satan within him, the Spirit of YHVH is still and forever in control.

Fourth Beast will be able to do only what he is allowed to do in order to sift all souls for the final day of judgment. All unrelenting souls will be sent to the same horribly painful eternity as Satan in that fiery hell that so many deny even exists.

CALLED TO SALVATION THROUGH THE GOSPEL
Does all of this make YHVH evil? No! YHVH gives everyone under the sun a choice. Those who choose not to love and obey him will be separated from him. The choice is ours. That is why everyone must hear the truth so they can choose according to what is in their heart. Some have become so deluded in their preaching of lies that they love the lies more than the truth that is mixed in with the lies to make them more palatable. For this reason guard your heart and stand firm in the truth to the end or risk being added to the number who go to destruction.
